<br />
I am hoping that the warm weather finds us up here in North Idaho. I need to warm up my bones a bit. Not much snow this winter, but since the official first day of spring we have had a storm every week that has dropped a few inches of white stuff on us.<br />
<br />
Things are still freezing into the 20's at night and my bulbs are shaking in their leaves! It looks like Earth Day might be more like what people traditionally consider the first day of Spring in these parts. From today until Earth day, our temps are supposed to finally hit the low 70's during the day! Yeah! But just to keep us on our toes, the nights will still drop down into the 30's...brrrr!<br />
<br />
Earth Day is on Wednesday, April 22nd. In our school it will probably be an Earth Week. Monday is Art so that is when I will do my Art project. Tuesday is when I do my whole class writing cuz that's one of the few days I have my whole class. Wednesday we will plant something...not sure what yet. Thursday is supposed to be computer lab, but it turns into science day after spring break each year because the upper grades take over the computer labs for ISAT's. And then on Friday we have Garbage Pick-Up Day around our little town. Each class takes gloves, big garbage bags and their hiking shoes, picks a street and starts walking and picking up trash. They love being out of the classroom and so do I!<br />
<br />
Here is the project that will encompass my writing and art this next week. The kiddos love it!<br />

We have school point goals each quarter. The 1st graders work hard to do their part, but with their books only worth .5 per book...it's really a small part. I create my own goal chart in my room with flowers that work their way up the vine -- to go along with the progress flower on the computer program. The kids love it, I love the simple way of keeping track of their goals...it's a win-win.<br />
<br />
But the school rewards are kind of odd sometimes. This quarter the school reached the school-wide goal and so they get to chew bubblegum! The principal delivers it to our rooms....the kids love it, but I want it to be a bit more fun and meaningful or rather memorable!<br />
<br />
This year I decided to turn the bubblegum into a mini theme for the day. Here are a few ideas and things I found to do that day.<br />
<br />
Here is a fun <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Bubblegum-Bump-Freebie-Math-Addition-Game-352292" target="_blank">math bump game</a> with the bubblegum theme. I found it on TpT:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdRZwwTZg2trG7hR72Uibtq6sUjNe2XmfaA-1SxNIpMOJPEGM5Gbr0d04F72XIFkqnZVJ7FUT6jxlWjt3yL29XXBE0gsiIEs6MKp-brKK_Y2-uFvp2jXQWsYDGSNQu6HoCQgW-M8CuUMA/s1600/bubblegum+bump.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdRZwwTZg2trG7hR72Uibtq6sUjNe2XmfaA-1SxNIpMOJPEGM5Gbr0d04F72XIFkqnZVJ7FUT6jxlWjt3yL29XXBE0gsiIEs6MKp-brKK_Y2-uFvp2jXQWsYDGSNQu6HoCQgW-M8CuUMA/s1600/bubblegum+bump.JPG" height="276" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the writing project I'm going to do....<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/How-to-Blow-a-Bubble-Bubblegum-Writing-and-Craft-675588" target="_blank">How to Blow A Bubble</a>: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAyC2mzKTS27lSmsLKXxIM2yh-xfPttP0NVR9qjLNQDGkAl8tS-f65qSKDLH6cBhjz4VIs9jmNRSaGQGGpM1SuRSbMNraBhMUokW2TQot0t2Av3fImIUr4Cn4ZRjo0b3Byaym-OORRHWQ/s1600/bubblegum+writing.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAyC2mzKTS27lSmsLKXxIM2yh-xfPttP0NVR9qjLNQDGkAl8tS-f65qSKDLH6cBhjz4VIs9jmNRSaGQGGpM1SuRSbMNraBhMUokW2TQot0t2Av3fImIUr4Cn4ZRjo0b3Byaym-OORRHWQ/s1600/bubblegum+writing.JPG" height="404" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then of course I had to get this Opinion Writing Activity too....<a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Opinion-Writing-Fun-Should-Bubblegum-Be-Allowed-at-School-519930" target="_blank">Should Bubblegum Be Allowed in School?</a> There is no such thing as too much writing...right?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuH9OWm8veyld1CEOi9FjiE7GY-hFUp-0sDKT7xkizf6ZOQOixelI2YxQHQTRwso39CQ5zQKdcQF7inHlzKSnKZGqItoBAimobfnNtox1PEtx250uWUghqntyWNAB8hT_wMs3hUun3aM8/s1600/bubblegum+opinion+writing.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuH9OWm8veyld1CEOi9FjiE7GY-hFUp-0sDKT7xkizf6ZOQOixelI2YxQHQTRwso39CQ5zQKdcQF7inHlzKSnKZGqItoBAimobfnNtox1PEtx250uWUghqntyWNAB8hT_wMs3hUun3aM8/s1600/bubblegum+opinion+writing.JPG" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Sweets-Candy-Science-Experiments-BUNDLE-5-different-Science-Packs-included-873243" target="_blank">next one on TpT</a> has a combination of math, science and art. It's a clever approach to bubblegum chewing..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-YI3Vl0fERIDxbBp5r6DEXL05cKWMZYj_AXBMqNalc86p1WIqvBKXsX9rbPkdWoLzp210xshyphenhyphenGBgNx9ibxiG41J3eY8q_DiPBBIGWa6Vgg1VkzrLk5h_0HbK8UlegwOE1pLvLIlyOOq0/s1600/bubblegum+science.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-YI3Vl0fERIDxbBp5r6DEXL05cKWMZYj_AXBMqNalc86p1WIqvBKXsX9rbPkdWoLzp210xshyphenhyphenGBgNx9ibxiG41J3eY8q_DiPBBIGWa6Vgg1VkzrLk5h_0HbK8UlegwOE1pLvLIlyOOq0/s1600/bubblegum+science.JPG" height="297" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My 1st graders are going to have fun while they are learning on bubblegum reward day this year! It might just make it fun for me too! If you don't have a bubblegum reward day at your school...maybe these are good reasons to give it a chew and ponder it.</div>

It's called <a href="http://www.thewalkingclassroom.org/about.php" target="_blank">The Walking Classroom</a>. The materials are aligned with the 4th and 5th grade Common Core Standards for Language Arts. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfFSYiGXgplxFTThl-NZZ2yzHL_j_huTasKQG4BSSw0hrDY_bf7JTtbiCJzPTCK23i6Tzw-AncWBpd5tCV4YarpijMO0h4uOrDW4av0j4JvFAhufo-SXRCCR1254xZo1w7LQAe-Izjj_M/s1600/jan+12+walking+classroom.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfFSYiGXgplxFTThl-NZZ2yzHL_j_huTasKQG4BSSw0hrDY_bf7JTtbiCJzPTCK23i6Tzw-AncWBpd5tCV4YarpijMO0h4uOrDW4av0j4JvFAhufo-SXRCCR1254xZo1w7LQAe-Izjj_M/s1600/jan+12+walking+classroom.JPG" height="195" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is how the program is described on their website:</span><br />
<br />
<i>The Walking Classroom Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and education of all students. The Walking Classroom program is an in-school obesity intervention that promotes health literacy and develops and supports lifelong fitness habits for all students while addressing different learning styles. The method combines standards-aligned academic content and exercise during the regular school day. Using WalkKits pre-loaded with a year's worth of standards-aligned audio content students walk, listen, and learn.</i><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It is a bit pricey, $3,000 for a class set, but they do have scholarships available to apply for on their website. It would be cool to purchase and perhaps share with the other classes in your building. And the teacher blogs I have seen this mentioned on tell about how their students just LOVE it. After you get things set up, the podcasts are only about 15-20 minutes. Perfect for those inclement recesses or an afternoon break from the walls of the classroom and their desks.</span>TeachinIdahohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05054301814774331762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641523873311285374.post-86734235252846153832015-01-12T07:31:00.001-08:002015-01-12T07:31:05.100-08:00The Third Wheel<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Today's blogger is Mrs. D at <a href="http://www.thethirdwheelteacherblog.com/" target="_blank">The Third Wheel</a>. She is a special ed teacher turned 3rd grade teacher turned instructional coach. This morning I was reading her class management tips. As an experienced 20 year teacher, it is still good to sit and read and be re-inspired about class management. <br />
This year I do have the dream class...the kind of class that substitutes leave gushing notes and messages about and can't wait to return to...<strike>15 </strike>um, I mean 16 as of last week of the best 1st graders ever! If only I wasn't being dragged down by meetings and more meetings and new curriculum to ponder, then I could spend more time enjoying their 16 smiling and eager faces! Ah, such is a teacher's life :)<br />
<br />
Back to Mrs. D....<br />
<br />
She shares great insight from the perspective of a teacher and a coach. She also has a very well stocked TpT store <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Third-Wheel/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg27-2C140JBzIXS7keTCXSFTmT6yP5ZOqmX566_jYlKKZq-up52bENa9BMzw6Ou11pNX4fT7Wf3pBoub3acC-KYJx5y28qYNz3WHBD7HnEbNgr0R3m15nfRkMuIcDLACM9x_IpUkY9vX8/s1600/the+third+wheel+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg27-2C140JBzIXS7keTCXSFTmT6yP5ZOqmX566_jYlKKZq-up52bENa9BMzw6Ou11pNX4fT7Wf3pBoub3acC-KYJx5y28qYNz3WHBD7HnEbNgr0R3m15nfRkMuIcDLACM9x_IpUkY9vX8/s1600/the+third+wheel+1.JPG" height="640" width="180" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ2ayXYAJVXEYa87FeDYNCWlvz3pjz0-euvhdO7m0TzSHoyiVumkiDJcgoA-C9engx_WZ5Rzl7JeLu1uc2ceT_F39APkkkTn_3MJojNRrAMsetn_XhW9hHcsVB1G8LAtfFUnDwix0zqfc/s1600/the+third+wheel+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ2ayXYAJVXEYa87FeDYNCWlvz3pjz0-euvhdO7m0TzSHoyiVumkiDJcgoA-C9engx_WZ5Rzl7JeLu1uc2ceT_F39APkkkTn_3MJojNRrAMsetn_XhW9hHcsVB1G8LAtfFUnDwix0zqfc/s1600/the+third+wheel+2.JPG" height="640" width="174" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the Edible science experiments, as I'm sure her students do as well :) They say they are geared to 2nd-4th grades, but I'm sure you could find some inspiration for a 1st grade or for you STEM class lessons!<br />
<br />
<br />
I also found that she has a large number of novel studies...for many popular titles. I bet you could find one that you use each year!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
And for those of you who haven't gotten a raise in a number of years...like me...there is the <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Third-Wheel/Price-Range/Free" target="_blank">FREEBIE STUFF</a>. I mean A LOT of Freebie stuff! Very exciting to find a talented author/teacher with free stuff!<br />

It's from <a href="http://elemschoolcounselor.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Elementary School's Counselor Blog</a>. The blog seems to be inactive since last spring, but she has some wonderful ideas that still work today and can be used.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf5_wWd_ezDQCujfaBBCIF4Vw-qBXJkLIaDlQ-6Ox4pYcMTFNTAcsyi2AzNo5YTpPxnlCosYDoI6KCR-vl6Z98y-mqMZLPVVepgXvBdvreFQ3FJhDJI-_MxeB1siawDuAJWKBUT7FjXtU/s1600/m+and+ms.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf5_wWd_ezDQCujfaBBCIF4Vw-qBXJkLIaDlQ-6Ox4pYcMTFNTAcsyi2AzNo5YTpPxnlCosYDoI6KCR-vl6Z98y-mqMZLPVVepgXvBdvreFQ3FJhDJI-_MxeB1siawDuAJWKBUT7FjXtU/s1600/m+and+ms.JPG" height="249" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This <a href="http://elemschoolcounselor.blogspot.com/2012/03/whats-best-part-of-m.html" target="_blank">M & M lesson</a> is very simple but very clear and powerful for young minds to understand the concept that we are all the same underneath the color of our skin.<br />
<br />
The lesson actually begins with two wrapped presents. One neat and pretty and the other poorly wrapped with old torn paper and tied with a string. The students get to pick which one they would open. As predicted, most of them pick the pretty one. When they open it they find it is filled with rocks. Then they open the other one and find M&M's.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpnamoMYyqSD4NxS97GkQFZakFOwAQXP-NLmJ15gmTdD79iUPMVFg4UEsH_XAKAjSQVwZeJedp2QAqZf-09JfWWreK2u2m2d9vjHLLvq9sSR18Co4oRdjrZEqJ53N7o3hqaBy961-suSI/s1600/m+and+m+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpnamoMYyqSD4NxS97GkQFZakFOwAQXP-NLmJ15gmTdD79iUPMVFg4UEsH_XAKAjSQVwZeJedp2QAqZf-09JfWWreK2u2m2d9vjHLLvq9sSR18Co4oRdjrZEqJ53N7o3hqaBy961-suSI/s1600/m+and+m+2.JPG" height="266" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can start with the M&M's wrapped in the boxes or just skip the gift box part as time allows. Either way it is a creative way to illustrate your point.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is a great warm up to the <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Martin-Luther-King-writingart-project-467170" target="_blank">MLK Art/Writing activity</a> I created and have done the past couple years.</div>

I know my classroom is fun and they can't wait to get back to me and the lesson we are in the middle of...<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
ok, well maybe it's just because they are preoccupied with the way the toilet flushes or they were talking to the other little boy who came in as they were finishing, but they seem to forget to wash their hands quite often.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yes, I know the girls do too....but honestly it's just not as often as those little fellers.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Here is a very cool find that I started using this week. (I don't believe in overusing hand sanitizer and we wash our hands every day before lunch with soap and warm water) I look at is not an alternative, but as a helpful reminder to them that they should wash their hands after going potty! </span><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"> </span> </div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">I found this on Stephanie's blog: <a href="http://www.3rdgradethoughts.com/" target="_blank">3rd Grade Thoughts</a>. She also has a <a href="http://www.3rdgradethoughts.com/2012/04/better-bathroom-pass.html" target="_blank">link </a>so you can print out these handy little labels...or you can make your own like I did.</span></div>

First that to learn, students have to love to learn and second to learn to love learning...it HAS TO BE FUN!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Today's blog hop find is Heather from <a href="http://readandblacklearning.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Read and Black and Learning All Over</a>. She is a 4th grade teacher in Pennsylvania. And she knows that learning has to be fun for it to stick! <br />
<br />
She has intermittent posts on her blog, but I was inspired by her Synonym lessons she created. I don't get to spend a lot of time on these in depth word studies in 1st grade, except with the high readers, but the first graders love when I can fit in a lesson here and there such as this one. I might be able to fit it in when I do my insect study in the spring....<br />

<br />
<br />
Heather does have some great things posted in <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Heather-Geist" target="_blank">her TPT Store</a>, so stop by there and see what will fit into your lesson plans this winter...your students are sure to find them FUN!TeachinIdahohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05054301814774331762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641523873311285374.post-30918493933981927892015-01-07T07:00:00.000-08:002015-01-07T07:00:02.228-08:003rd Grade Thoughts<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Stephanie is the blogger/teacher behind this creative blog. I tell my 1st grade students how important presentation is when you are writing....her blog header is a great example. It totally caught my eye! I absolutely love it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">When you get past the header, you will love what is beyond...fun resources and ideas for teaching 3rd grade. Her most recent post is her <a href="http://www.3rdgradethoughts.com/2014/12/counting-down-top-10-posts-of-2014.html" target="_blank">Top 10 From 2014</a>. A perfect place to start to find the wide array of resources she has created and tips she gives for teaching 3rd grade.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Class Management and Organization are some of the largest topics Stephanie covers. She has a classroom that is so stinking organized...could she come do mine please?!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It is all so neat and tidy...but what about when the students walk through the door? Well she has some great classroom management resources as well. These posters are great and they come with anchor charts as well. Not only useful in 3rd grade, but I use them in 1st. </span></div>
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">She also has some wonderful resources for building your classroom climate as well. I can't begin to show or tell you about everything...you will just need to visit her blog or stop by her <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/3rd-Grade-Thoughts" target="_blank">TpT Store</a> as</span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> well.</span></div>

I am a bit of a techno geek....but I still have so much to learn because I teach in a part of the country that is still behind the tech pace of the modern world. We limp along to try to keep up...but we have a way to go.<br />
<br />
So most of what I learn is on my own time. <a href="http://www.freetech4teachers.com/" target="_blank">Free Technology 4 Teachers</a> is a wonderful blog with tips for all grades and all ages. <br />

Just the first couple posts I read got me excited to try some new things. Word Clouds...love those! Creating your own Jeopardy game board?! LOVE IT! And as a parent, there is the coolest, parent friendly app out there called PHOTOMATH. You just take a picture of your child's high school math problem and it will show you the steps to solving it!! NO WAY! I will be trying this out on my daughter's homework to see if it really works!TeachinIdahohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05054301814774331762noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5641523873311285374.post-68369134357423347402015-01-05T07:00:00.000-08:002015-01-05T07:00:00.493-08:00Kindergarten Connnections<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This weekend I downloaded the greatest New Year's writing project and I just had to share it with you! I can't wait to share it with my first graders this week!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I found it on this creative teacher blog:</div>

Holly, from <a href="http://mrsehleskindergartenconnections.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kindergarten Connections</a>, has a wonderful freebie that not only helps them practice their writing skills but also teaches them to think of others. It's not your typical New Year's Resolution writing template. It's a template for teaching your students to think about how they can make this year <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Making-2015-AWESOME-for-Other-People-A-New-Years-Activity-1619260" target="_blank">awesome for OTHER people</a>. I love it! Download it now...I did :)</div>

It's such a beautiful place to live. It is supposed to continue snowing all day today and tonight. Who knows...perhaps we will have one extra day of vacation after all! <br />
<br />
This is my view of my back yard on my last day of winter break...<br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I also found it funny that it had a NO CHINA option. I don't think they are making a majority of the stuff anymore...are they? I see more Taiwan on things these days.</span><br />

What happened to 2014. It just flew by...I started out last year blogging a lot, but then life got busy with teaching, coaching and my oldest daughter graduating high school.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Not that this year will be less full. Instead I am going to work on my time management a bit more. Tomorrow for example, will be my lesson planning day. I am going to try to get at least a general map of all my lesson focuses for the next three months. Fingers crossed that goes quickly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Common Core, a new Language Arts adoption (Journeys) and another year of our piece-meal math program (new adoption planned for next year) will keep me busy. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So, as a fun aside, I will be polishing up and loading more of my creations to <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Primary-In-Idaho" target="_blank">TPT </a>and <a href="http://www.teachersnotebook.com/shop/PrimaryinIdaho" target="_blank">TN</a>. I will also resurrect and continue my 365 Blog Hop. It is always so much fun to find those talented teachers out there and share what they are doing.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Today I am going to start with one of my favorite things....FONTS. There are some great Free Fonts out there. Some you can use in your creations that you sell, some you need to purchase a license, but it's always good to support fellow artists/teachers!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidpGuiDIM4tWLxmHNANyU3zfYgjnouGg8rGbwpwWA7yMCKT71G9LAbvaItZhXqcumR7TEtcXBeSVP1IRxxiVDAEAsNl8XPVO9DsU7OOLewVSkYG1wBon3R43aWpqqs05kApyMJ1tHA1Ew/s1600/kevin+and+amanda.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidpGuiDIM4tWLxmHNANyU3zfYgjnouGg8rGbwpwWA7yMCKT71G9LAbvaItZhXqcumR7TEtcXBeSVP1IRxxiVDAEAsNl8XPVO9DsU7OOLewVSkYG1wBon3R43aWpqqs05kApyMJ1tHA1Ew/s1600/kevin+and+amanda.JPG" height="96" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My number one favorite is <a href="http://www.kevinandamanda.com/fonts/" target="_blank">Kevin and Amanda</a>...I have a link to them on the left bar of my blog too. If you are a scrapbooker or Font fiend like me....then you have to check out their free downloads. They are awesome!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<br />
Here are some examples of what you can find....<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioa_jWEs4g02QpJIXSestJIhpECe545P_ALmkVzKIWgSOGyVaY4SIpVDa4hbHauyuPcD4rRYUOQhF7kLGMA7swe41gBexk2HrakTn9LeYJ4DWR9hba8Qm5uw8CnMNW1J_SpBPSjtSqprM/s1600/ten+frame+math+preview.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioa_jWEs4g02QpJIXSestJIhpECe545P_ALmkVzKIWgSOGyVaY4SIpVDa4hbHauyuPcD4rRYUOQhF7kLGMA7swe41gBexk2HrakTn9LeYJ4DWR9hba8Qm5uw8CnMNW1J_SpBPSjtSqprM/s1600/ten+frame+math+preview.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">My Ten Frame Math has been very popular. I wasn't smart and fancy and put a link in them to the second one I created...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-5E7tICks0ewf2YX6s2YZl3ttbj3MBvdsN5TUs7CfyrCwBYEhOB0WzLoWWfpUIq27GTaDcgrwE_t7X5X6UYiSJyDaeidTSuEuy-67UKDu06OXw5qJV10HzDJCtFvQfIH0q3sXzXi6RQw/s1600/ten+frame+math+2+preview.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-5E7tICks0ewf2YX6s2YZl3ttbj3MBvdsN5TUs7CfyrCwBYEhOB0WzLoWWfpUIq27GTaDcgrwE_t7X5X6UYiSJyDaeidTSuEuy-67UKDu06OXw5qJV10HzDJCtFvQfIH0q3sXzXi6RQw/s1600/ten+frame+math+2+preview.JPG" /></a></div>
But there is a Ten Frame Math #2. It extends the first one in a nice progression for those that want to give your students a bit more practice with missing numbers. It is a nice transition to getting them to think about subtraction.<br />
<br />
And once they start to have a sense of numbers and what addition and subtraction are...then it's the perfect time to move into my new creation. It's called Building Houses and Number Bonds. I used them throughout 1st quarter with my 1st graders and it was a very helpful addition to the non-existent math curriculum we have right now. It made for a wonderful transition into subtraction facts! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkpRxat1Yp-5-WC3hsDKV-M14koHeP3sTE1lWux1TFeKFV-1aBPLB6SoRPIDB7f9AfOPASbBXWKC49EUwL5wuA_VsM6Dbq_th5PhEHmXetO-mTY2TphLr_V4OgDKjvO-pmrSdqCBLODVg/s1600/fact+family+COVER+preview+%231.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkpRxat1Yp-5-WC3hsDKV-M14koHeP3sTE1lWux1TFeKFV-1aBPLB6SoRPIDB7f9AfOPASbBXWKC49EUwL5wuA_VsM6Dbq_th5PhEHmXetO-mTY2TphLr_V4OgDKjvO-pmrSdqCBLODVg/s1600/fact+family+COVER+preview+%231.JPG" height="320" width="247" /></a></div>
<br />
At this time of the year, it would still be helpful for resource students, Kindergarten students, Homeschool students, or those who are still just a bit behind. The number bond pages are great for homework or entry task pages as well!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq2_frJqQvO3xBRxyZlDtaka4gbxeD8iGFhTuduF1u5bWNoTwMtV9cS7sx6qWvRCw_xNKR7gZ87CKRXVtLzZlHo4QtSPu9GZ0kXFfCEp_wdfqaJkECmwB6IBjsYYt8qIqJHqbUBIErWoE/s1600/fact+family+COVER+preview+%232.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq2_frJqQvO3xBRxyZlDtaka4gbxeD8iGFhTuduF1u5bWNoTwMtV9cS7sx6qWvRCw_xNKR7gZ87CKRXVtLzZlHo4QtSPu9GZ0kXFfCEp_wdfqaJkECmwB6IBjsYYt8qIqJHqbUBIErWoE/s1600/fact+family+COVER+preview+%232.JPG" height="248" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Here are two other things I would like to highlight for the sale....<br />
<br />
My Fun with Facts Coloring pages. My first graders love doing these...they don't even consider it math because they get to color! (I have an easy bunch this year that LOVE to learn!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYzCCvOqz_BsIC5rD5k_WoCRwYwptxAlxcvHoTc0m7Ilbue0-ki8gLxX5XXVpuSdxbQn2lIjxI0_RCZZuoyYasaQFS-PxVROSXHB0mcMlccqjZIUFKNBkJViF8t-yoYTwYLbBHT_KYjdA/s1600/Fun-with-facts-dec-cover-sample.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYzCCvOqz_BsIC5rD5k_WoCRwYwptxAlxcvHoTc0m7Ilbue0-ki8gLxX5XXVpuSdxbQn2lIjxI0_RCZZuoyYasaQFS-PxVROSXHB0mcMlccqjZIUFKNBkJViF8t-yoYTwYLbBHT_KYjdA/s1600/Fun-with-facts-dec-cover-sample.jpg" height="250" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And besides math, my other true LOVE in teaching, is writing! I love to have my first graders write. They do it from day one in September and we write a couple times a week. Our new Language Arts adoption has a writing component in it, but sometimes they have a difficult time drawing from personal knowledge to write on those topics. So I fill in with things they know and love to talk about...here is a great winter one about Snowmen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Jennifer Drake at <a href="http://crayonsandcutiesinkindergarten.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Crayons and Cuties in Kindergarten</a> has lots of fun ideas for her K-kids. She also loves a good blog hop. <br />
<br />
Check out this cool activity for helping your young ones learn to spell their name. Very clever with a little cowboy kick....I can appreciate that in this part of North Idaho! The students can walk on the letters of their name to practice spelling it. There are some cute cowboy boots and a hat they make to go along with it. Be sure to visit<a href="http://crayonsandcutiesinkindergarten.blogspot.com/2014/08/get-stompinwith-letter-fun.html" target="_blank"> {this page} </a>for more details.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The feet are printed on double sided scrapbook paper and like most of us...we hate to throw things away, so Jennifer shreds the paper scraps and saves them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVT_-hWvK2sKKLoW2xNaTXI4ub1TzYapw9fD8CAo2UZPnQUBjaQMLBxxr4JRISiV4ofA9AOdYJ3YNj5lepmlb7RsBosJ9T6pix76va_GBXzcx0ooLWfi1aHR83rCP15klraY1jRyyVh3k/s1600/crayons+and+cuties+in+kindergarten3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVT_-hWvK2sKKLoW2xNaTXI4ub1TzYapw9fD8CAo2UZPnQUBjaQMLBxxr4JRISiV4ofA9AOdYJ3YNj5lepmlb7RsBosJ9T6pix76va_GBXzcx0ooLWfi1aHR83rCP15klraY1jRyyVh3k/s1600/crayons+and+cuties+in+kindergarten3.JPG" height="280" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then she fills a box with them and the students have to hunt for letters in the box. I think this would be fun in one of those rice/water/bean table in your classroom!</div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is the blog post that inspired me to blog again! Post --> {<a href="http://kathygriffinteach.blogspot.com/2014/08/dollar-store-math-center.html" target="_blank">Click THIS</a>} </span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Kathy has a whole list of great math game ideas for levels K-3. My first graders will be coming right after Labor Day, and when I saw this I knew exactly what I needed this for! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">I am going to make one of these...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">My version: The game will be for two-4 people.</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Each person gets 6 linking cubes of of one color (or little bears or whatever you have that they can have six of one color per person) </span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">They will roll one die and they get to put a color token in each section when they roll it. </span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">If they roll the same number twice, they lose a turn. </span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The winner is the one who gets one of their tokens in each section first!</span></li>
<li style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">This is a very easy beginning of 1st grade center game which won't take adult involvement to participate.</span></li>
</ul>

<br />
I live in Seahawk territory (Shhhh...I'm a Niner fan myself) and all around me are 12th Man signs, symbols and flags. So I decided that today would be a perfect day to jump on board and have a 12% discount in my stores.<br />
<br />
One problem with that. Neither shop will let me do 12%...they only do increments of 5, so you lucked out and I am doing a 15% discount!<br />
<br />
Now if the Seahawks win...there will be a special sale ALL next week to honor the victory, so check back after the game :)<br />

My day was made today when I opened up TpT and found myself (well, my store) as one of the featured stores!! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEKZanfHi8C1tupHrOVI5K_Lz6UmEK28pCaAVyzNZ8-4W-0-n51VpCoDaoYFJp_tC2Kd13wQnYbnnz8DWXPu6URvHmpbbCsKx_9QeNets2DtdnnpJV2MjMujog02Qr0fItG0Y96bbohbk/s1600/tpt+cover+person.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEKZanfHi8C1tupHrOVI5K_Lz6UmEK28pCaAVyzNZ8-4W-0-n51VpCoDaoYFJp_tC2Kd13wQnYbnnz8DWXPu6URvHmpbbCsKx_9QeNets2DtdnnpJV2MjMujog02Qr0fItG0Y96bbohbk/s1600/tpt+cover+person.JPG" height="512" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm not one of those 6 digit earning teachers....yet....but I did break $100 this month! So maybe this is a good sign for 2014. 14 is my lucky number after all!! :) I believe that right now I have 14 items in my store too...there's that number again! I need to increase that to have more earnings. It's not that I don't have the ideas or the projects to load...but the time to do it would be nice.<br />
<br />
Perhaps you could stop by my store <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Primary-In-Idaho" target="_blank">{click here}</a> and see if you can find anything useful for your classroom. I teach in Idaho and we are 17th below the national average for teacher salaries (33rd from the top--yes, thank you Mr. Luna and Governor Otter for perpetuating that!). <br />
<br />
I'm not even at the Idaho state average yet! What a goofball I was to leave my salary in California and move $20,000 backwards. But if you have ever been to North Idaho, you would understand why we did it. It is a wonderful place to raise your kids. Everything balances out in the end.<br />
<br />
So, I did notice that a lot of teachers who have stores on TpT are from those states that are hanging with us below the national average! For me, the reason I do it is because my brain is full of ideas. I have had co-workers tell me for years (before TpT existed) that I should make a book of what I do. Well this is one way to start. Also, there is the cost of college....one daughter is starting college next fall and our second daughter is going to dual enroll next year during her junior year in high school. Now comes the next 4 or 5 years of poverty for us...so anything I can create and load on TpT will help get my kids through school!<br />
<br />
Do you have a TpT store? Do your earnings go to something special? Do you have a favorite store you go back to over and over? <br />
<br />
ok...gotta go finish the comments on my report cards tonight! Oh, yeah, and make 14 cheer bows for the Mini Hawk performance at the Varsity game tomorrow. Phew....I'm tired already. lol<br />

I got lost this year. Strayed away from some of the things I wanted to accomplish. It wasn't because of a lack of trying and it definitely wasn't because I was being apathetic and not doing anything. <br />
<br />
It started with the end of the school year last May, then summer came, and summer stuff that kept me away from my computer. I guess in some respects that is a good thing. But not what I was hoping for.<br />
<br />
We bought a camper this summer...something that my husband has wanted to do for like forever...so we had to use it. Then the next thing I knew, August cheer practices started, and fundraisers and team bonding and then school began again.<br />
<br />
Now add in my daughter being a senior, which means I have been on the Senior Parent Committee planning the grad night party this coming June, filling out FAFSA paperwork and scholarship and college applications, and two varsity competitive cheerleading daughters, which I coach, and of course there are the 21 1st graders I live with Monday through Friday...and the icing on the cake: Common Core adoption and no math curriculum so we are fudging our way through the next two years until it's in the budget to adopt an actual curriculum. I feel like I am swimming against the current just to keep up and getting nowhere.<br />
<br />
Anyone else out there feel that way??<br />
<br />
So 5 hours of sleep in a night is a good night.<br />
<br />
I don't want to wish for summer because that means my first baby will graduate...and there is no way I am old enough for that. But could we please have a few more hours in my day. 26...is that too much to ask? Really, just one or two. Just slow the spin of the earth just a tad bit. Is that too much to ask for??<br />
<br />
Here are my two biggest distractions...my girls:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJI7kf4ya0GjRUnJvPoJbIVrEaIzTdboJeHSMLCs865mEK2AQytUiiOorY5AIgJPvjVfQle9OihI7Mg53pBbt1SqcYqeS4huuzO2GeCwxGilGq3kocqopW5wq3PjwKQYZKVfdP_SbrplA/s1600/IMG_1287.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJI7kf4ya0GjRUnJvPoJbIVrEaIzTdboJeHSMLCs865mEK2AQytUiiOorY5AIgJPvjVfQle9OihI7Mg53pBbt1SqcYqeS4huuzO2GeCwxGilGq3kocqopW5wq3PjwKQYZKVfdP_SbrplA/s1600/IMG_1287.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So hopefully I will find more time to post and actual get to the 365 blogs I'm looking for!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy New Year!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And yes, I haven't sent my Christmas cards out yet either! lol</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a new blog in the Teacher Blog realm of creativeness. It's the <a href="http://cleverclassroomblog.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Clever Classroom</a> a creation of Emma Farrell. Emma is an Aussie teacher who has been teaching, making and creating for quite some time. She started on Ebay and moved toward TpT a few years ago. Her specialty is primary...from pre-school to 3rd grade. Her blog is brand new...but her eBay store and TpT store have been around for quite some time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Emma has over <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Clever-Classroom" target="_blank">250 items in her TpT store</a>. And she has gobs of great FREE stuff...which this time of the month is a blessing to find! (payday is only a week away...man, getting paid once a month really stinks!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
She is a woman after my own heart...she is organized. She has nice category links to her blog posts making it really easy to find the needful thing you are looking for! See...functional and cute! And she has more too...but this is just a few of them....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0JLpdm39XUtqNBwIVBjVYgMNWO3SUbg7976nmphz8CUYd6MrRldQ44wyDjoPIA8cKiofgCwJZohales9MUZlz5fpwjFvebhYei6mzeu9tNJkkAhJ44uCjOtVaUOTTzwhyphenhyphenruSRSf-r1Cw/s1600/113+categories.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0JLpdm39XUtqNBwIVBjVYgMNWO3SUbg7976nmphz8CUYd6MrRldQ44wyDjoPIA8cKiofgCwJZohales9MUZlz5fpwjFvebhYei6mzeu9tNJkkAhJ44uCjOtVaUOTTzwhyphenhyphenruSRSf-r1Cw/s320/113+categories.JPG" width="118" /></a></div>
<br />
Right away I found a really cute Mother's Day art idea. Perfect for framing or mounting on a fridge :) I think <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm59RDyfe_Ko3eeiOpKrr62QW7BJezB-d2fDCJMU0DikZdNbAVmqXYO-5V5DQmsyLQIkwXDdT0y2Xmm7ZE7qRhYsd1_o8zvfD7TUjqnk7kqo0Aw3GUq2peR0IsPXiXMas6UIXh9XeVz0A/s1600/113+mother%2527s+day+idea.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline !important; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm59RDyfe_Ko3eeiOpKrr62QW7BJezB-d2fDCJMU0DikZdNbAVmqXYO-5V5DQmsyLQIkwXDdT0y2Xmm7ZE7qRhYsd1_o8zvfD7TUjqnk7kqo0Aw3GUq2peR0IsPXiXMas6UIXh9XeVz0A/s400/113+mother%2527s+day+idea.JPG" width="256" /></a><br />
it will be a fun card to go with our Mother's Day tea and our flower pots my 1st graders are making for their moms.<br />
<br />
You also need to check out her description and how-to for keeping your table cloth on the table in your classroom...or if/when the table is outside in a breeze. This has been a battle over the years....masking tape, binder clips, chip bag clips and even the attractive roll of duct tape to no avail.<br />
<br />
This looks like a cool idea. Click {<a href="http://cleverclassroomblog.blogspot.com.au/p/good-ideas.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>} to go to her blog and find out how to make it. You may need a conversion chart because being Aussie she talks in that strange metric language...lol<br />

<br />
Here is a great techy blogger, Katie King, to go hand in hand with Betsy Weigle from yesterday's blog. Katie's blog <a href="http://queenofthefirstgradejungle.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Queen of the First Grade Jungle</a> is a great learning place for those of you new to iPad's in the classroom. She says that we need to train and teach our students skills for jobs that haven't been invented yet. That is so very true!<br />
<br />
After reading <a href="http://queenofthefirstgradejungle.blogspot.com/2013/03/techy-teacher-tuesday-on-wednesday.html" target="_blank">THIS POST</a> I am now on a mission to get iPads for our primary classrooms! Holy cow this is sooooo cool! We are a bit behind the times in North Idaho. Heck, when it snows a lot or rains a lot or if the wind blows just the right way...it messes up our internet connection! lol We are moving forward toward technology...it just may not be at the pace of other parts of the country :)<br />
<br />
Katie also has a <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Katie-King-Queen-of-the-First-Grade-Jungle" target="_blank">TpT Store</a> that is full of great units. Most of them are larger packets or Mega packs as some creators call them. But she has a series of <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Katie-King-Queen-of-the-First-Grade-Jungle" target="_blank">Busy Teacher packets</a> that are full of great 1st grade leveled stuff! And when I say stuff...I say it because it is full of just about anything you might need to teach writing, reading, language skills, math and more. Each month has specific themes to go with the holidays and events that happen within that month. It's worth spending a bit to get these great activities. Just check them out and you will see what I mean!<br />

Yes, we aren't in the same state, but Spokane is just across the border from where I live in North Idaho. They have Trader Joe's...we have moose. They have hockey and baseball teams...we have little league. They have big concerts like Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood...and we have Scout-o-Rama and the rodeo at our fair grounds :) Good thing they are our neighbors! (But the gas at our Costco is about 20 cents less a gallon than theirs so we can afford to drive over the border more often :)<br />

Betsy has a lot of resources for teachers. She has a blog a website and a TpT store! She has done just about everything but fix the kitchen sink in her school district. But I wouldn't put that down as not being a possibility too! Her resources are mostly for grades 3rd and up...but much of what she does and says can be brought down to the level you need it.<br />
<br />
I love, love, love this lesson she has posted about <a href="http://classroom-caboodle.blogspot.com/2013/01/mastering-student-line-up-part-1.html" target="_blank">teaching your class to line up</a>! I thought this was just a 1st grade problem, but apparently it's something that doesn't stick with the kids and has to be retaught each school year! Her lesson is called: Teaching your students to Master the Art of lining up. I just have to chuckle...because next year I plan to try a whole new attitude and approach to this simple task...but one that tends to hold us all up from leaving the classroom at least a couple times a week.<br />
<br />
If you are looking for ways to incorporate technology into your classroom...then Betsy is your gal for that too! She has just gotten a set of iPads for her class! That is so cool! I would love to just have a center full of them for all of our primary classrooms. Betsy has an awesome series of posts about using the iPad and the apps to try with your students. Click<a href="http://classroom-caboodle.blogspot.com/search/label/iPads" target="_blank"> {HERE}</a> to go to the posts. She is posting more as she is working the kinks out with her students. It's a great resource to get you started!<br />
<br />
And then if you can't find enough treasures in her blog...she also has an actual <a href="http://www.classroom-teacher-resources.com/" target="_blank">website </a>and a <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Classroom-Caboodle" target="_blank">store on TpT</a>.<br />
Although most of her resources are for beyond the primary years....I found a treasure that I have added to my TpT Wishlist. Betsy has a lot of math and science in her store. And this cool lesson, <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Valentines-Science-Stacking-Hearts-Challenge-for-Grades-K-6" target="_blank">Stacking Heart Challenge</a>, now turned Valentine's Day and conversation hearts into a science project, not just a math project!!<br />

Love it, Love it, Love it! Can't wait to use it next February! One of the things I love, even after 18 years of teaching, is discovering a new way to use something old! Cuz when I'm excited, my students get excited...and when they are excited...they learn more! Thanks Betsy!!</div>

For my birthday...here is a wonderful gift. This blog is so full of ideas it's going to burst at the seams! The name says it all...<a href="http://www.teachingblogaddict.com/p/welcome-to-tba.html" target="_blank">Teaching Blog Addict</a>...it's what we bloggers tend to be...addicts to the cause. As they say, they are "a fun resource community for educators." If you are looking for some inspiration or a freebie or two or just tomorrow's lesson plan or art project, then this is a blog that should be on your bookmark bar!<br />
